South Asian local church baptizes a new believer from a Muslim background

The International Mission Board reports that a South Asian woman identified by the protected name Tara became a Christian, joined a local congregation, and was baptized after studying the Gospel of John with local and international believers.

IMB's October 26 account says two missionaries and a South Asian Christian identified by the protected name Maryam met Tara in a park during Eid al-Adha. They continued meeting in public and private settings to read the Gospel of John, and the report says Tara later prayed to receive Christ and began attending a congregation of about 40 believers, many from Muslim backgrounds.

A local pastor and Maryam baptized Tara the following spring. The report also describes the risks surrounding her decision: relatives pressed her to remain Muslim after learning only that she was exploring Christianity, while she had not disclosed her baptism to her family.

The account says Tara has brought university friends to church and that another student has expressed interest in faith and baptism. Those follow-on details remain ministry testimony rather than measured outcomes.
