Bible Access List finds restrictions affecting more than 500 million Christians

The 2026 Bible Access List reports that more than 500 million Christians live with restrictions on Bible access and assesses 106 countries for legal, social, economic, and digital barriers.

The Bible Access Initiative ranks 87 countries for restrictions and publishes shortage estimates for 81 countries. Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, North Korea, and Eritrea occupy the first five places on its restrictions list.

The initiative also reports that more than 400 million Christians across 42 countries lack internet access, while 277 million across 48 countries live where online Scripture access is unsafe or restricted. These figures are modelled estimates produced by a coalition of Bible and mission agencies, not a count of individual incidents or an independent government dataset.
