Five European governments intensify work on third-country return hubs

Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and Greece agreed to deepen talks with possible partner countries about return centers outside the EU.

A Danish ministry invitation dated September 2 previewed the five-country meeting, and a September 4 outcome said the group would intensify dialogue with potential partner countries.

The initiative was exploratory governmental coordination, not evidence that an external return hub was operational. It was a separate five-country effort and should not be described as a Nordic–Baltic initiative.
