EU asylum applications fell 17% while Bangladeshi applications rose

EUAA’s first-half review found the lowest January-to-June application total since 2021 even as applications from Bangladesh increased.

EUAA reported on September 10, 2026, that EU+ countries received about 332,000 asylum applications in the first half of the year, down 17% from the same period in 2025. Bangladeshi applications rose 13% to 19,521.

Applications are not border-arrival counts or measures of the resident migrant population. This is distinct from Wright Mission’s Eurostat story using June-only first-time-application data.
