Christians remained Europe’s largest migrant religious group in 2020

Pew estimates that nearly 49 million migrants in Europe were Christian in 2020, while migrants overall made up 12% of the region’s population.

Pew estimated that Europe’s international migrant stock rose from 7% of the population in 1990 to 12% in 2020. Christian migrants numbered about 48.9 million and remained the largest religious group among migrants in the region.

These are migrant-stock estimates for people living outside their country of birth, not annual flows. Modeled religious composition does not show individual practice or changes after arrival.
