"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
God gave Moses direct revelation in regard to fundraising for the tabernacle. Although Moses was to specify the need and the sort of acceptable offering, the people were required to give only as their hearts prompted them. (Exod. 25-36)
David motivated people to give freely, sacrificially, and generously to make provision for the temple his son Solomon would build. (1 Chron. 29: 1-20)
Nehemiah used secular resources from king Artaxeres to fix the Broken down walls of Jerusalem. (Neh. 1,2)
Even though Jesus was the Son of God and could feed thousands, He accepted contributions (Luke 8:3). A donkey in (Matt. 21:1-11). Even though it wasn’t in a fundraising context, Jesus didn’t hesitate to challenge people in regard to their money and possessions, as in the case of the rich young ruler (Matt. 19:16-30)
Then, of course there’s Paul! Which operated much like modern missionaries do. (2 Cor. 8, 9) (1 Cor. 16 1-4) (Phil 1; 4:10-20) (1 Tim. 6:17-19)
The biblical texts on giving and fundraising clearly shows that God intends His people to be generous, cheerful givers. Fundraising calls Christians to obedience in this area, thereby providing a ministry. We have no problem accepting calls to purity, respect for authority, and love for our neighbors. Calling people to obedience in giving is just as important. The scriptures are clear on God’s call for His people to share their resources with others.
If you have yet to partner with us in this Great Commission (Matt. 28:19), please pray for us and consider giving. Missions rely on individuals like you!
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal." Matthew 6:19-21
